A Brief History of the Lehigh Valley Region

            Antique Automobile Club of America

On November 14, 1935, 14 men and one woman met in the auditorium of the Automobile Club of Philadelphia and founded the AACA, as we know it today.

Less than 20 years later on June 14, 1952 a group of 31 men and two women met in the Lehigh Valley to receive a charter from the parent organization establishing the Lehigh Valley Region.  Raymond Martin, who at the time, was serving as a Director for the national organization, led this effort.  Founding member, Victor Banas, suggested the name of the new region and we have been known as the Lehigh Valley Region since that time. The region was incorporated as a non-profit entity on May 21, 1995.

From this humble beginning the Region grew to more than 400 members and thrived under the leadership of many different Presidents.  Because of its size and the great expanse of territory covered by the region, it was determined there was a need for additional local regions.  To this end, two additional regions have been spawned from this original base.  Our sister regions are the Pocono Region located in the Pocono Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Ontelaunee Region located in the western edges of the Lehigh Valley.

Our club publication, The Body Squeaks, has existed from the beginning of the club and is published monthly and available to all members and friends of the region.  Today, our region is the oldest organized car club in continuous existence in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania and one of the oldest regions within the national organization.

Today our region consists of over 200 members and holds over 30 events a year.  These events range from monthly cruise nights to banquets and tours throughout the area.  Our doors are open to all antique and classic car enthusiasts throughout Western New Jersey and the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania.

Please come join us as we continue to grow and enjoy the hobby with us.  Information concerning joining our Region is located elsewhere on this site.
